The Devil in the Navy

CNN reported last Sunday, October 24, that the British Royal Navy has just recognized its first Satan worshiper.

A Mr. Chris Cranmer (I wish I were making that up), age 24, will now have the protected right to perform Satanic rituals on board the ship, and will also be permitted a Satanist funeral rite if he should be killed in action.

As if this were not bad enough, he is now lobbying the Ministry of Defense to make Satanism one of the "registered religions" in the Armed Forces. You read that right.

Good afternoon, Mr. Doe, thank you for joining the Armed Forces; if you should be mortally wounded in battle, would you like to see a Catholic priest, a Lutheran minister, or a priest of the Church of Satan?

Cranmer was quoted by CNN as saying that he wants Satanists to feel welcome in the military, without "fear of marginalisation and the necessity to put up with Christian dogma."

Freedom of Religion - I say it again - means one thing: Freedom for Atheism. Competing religions cannot co-exist as equals, unless they all agree to keep their beliefs very, very quiet.

In bringing Satanism to the British Forces, Cranmer admits that he wants to end "the necessity to put up" - tolerate? - "with Christian dogma."

Notice that he targets Christianity specifically. He didn't say he doesn't want to put up with Islamic beliefs, or Hindu teachings, or Rabbinic practices. He just hates "Christian dogma" (read, "Catholic dogma" - no other denominations even attempt to define dogmatic formulae).

So, here's the chilling question: when the men and women in the American Army, Navy, Marines, etc., hear about this development over in Britian and decide, hey, we want Satanism as a registered religion over here too ... who will stop it?

More to the point, how will it be stopped?

What in our Constitution, Declaration of Independence, previous legal precedents, etc., can we fall back on to make the case that Satanism ought to be excluded from the panoply of "religions" which are embraced by the "Freedom of Religion" policy of this nation?

The war between darkness and light is about to really come to a head.
